YSR conveys `Vinayaka

Chaturthi' greetings

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has greeted Telugus in the State, country and abroad on the occasion of `Vinayaka Chaturthi' being celebrated on August 27.

In a message, he desired that the festival would pave the way for unity, tolerance and spreading of culture. Dr. Reddy recalled that during the nine-day celebrations people worship Lord Vinayaka for removing obstacles in their lives. - Special Correspondent

APPSC written test

on September 2

HYDERABAD: The written test conducted by Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission for the Group IV Services Limited Recruitment Examination-2006 (objective type) will be held on September 2 at Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Warangal.

Hall-tickets indicating the timetable had been despatched to candidates. Those who do not get hall-tickets by August 31 could download them from the APPSC website http://appsc.ap.nic.in. - Special Correspondent

Cancel TTD chief's

appointment: BJP

HYDERABAD: State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president N. Indrasena Reddy has sought cancellation of the appointment of B. Karunakar Reddy as Chairman, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams `as he has no faith in the Hindu religion'.

In a statement here on Saturday, he described Mr. Reddy an atheist and activist of RSU who was jailed during the Emergency when extremist organisations were banned. - Special Correspondent

116 cases settled

at Lok Adalat

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Legal Services Authority on Saturday settled 116 pre-litigation cases at a Lok Adalat in the City Civil Court, here. They pertained to Andhra Bank Credit Card division, SBI, ICICI Bank and Tata Tele Services.

The total amount awarded in the settled cases was Rs. 36.24 lakh. - Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI: An anonymous devotee of Chennai presented a diamond-studded golden crown at the Tiruchanur temple here on Friday. The crown, estimated to be worth Rs. 40 lakhs, will be adorned to the deity of goddess Padmavathi during important events. - Staff Reporter

Debit-ridden ryot

commits suicide

ANANTAPUR: Raghunatha Reddy (56), a farmer of Prasannayapalli in Rapthadu mandal, committed suicide by torching himself after dousing with kerosene in his house on Thursday night. He succumbed in the General Hospital here in the wee hours of Friday.

According to the family members and the police, the farmer was in distress for the past few days due to crop failure. He was also worried about paying his son's fee, who is pursuing B. Tech second year. - Staff Reporter

Police unearth

Maoist dump

KADAPA: Special police parties of Kadapa unearthed a Maoist dump in Seshachalam forests near Tsundupalle in Rayachoti constituency on Saturday and seized ammunition and Rs. 1.03 lakhs in cash.

One 9 mm. carbine, one 9 mm. magazine, 13 cartridges of 9 mm, 25 hand grenades, 250 DBBL cartridges, non-electrical detonators, 25 kg of gelatine, a VHF set, a digital multi-meter, drilling machines, electrical wire etc were seized SP Y. Nagi Reddy said. - Staff Reporter
