Priyanka beats Adithi, storms into last four

HYDERABAD: A.L. Priyanka defeated O. Adithi 21-17, 23-21 in the girls' singles quarterfinals of the State sub-junior badminton meet at the Officers Club, Warangal on Saturday, according to information received here.

St. Andrews `A' in final

St. Andrews `A' and All Saints' HS entered the final of the St. Andrews inter-school cricket tournament for the Louis Emanuel Trophy here on Saturday. St. Andrews `A' defeated Samaritans by 57 runs while All Saints' scored a 12-run win over St. Andrews `B' in the semifinals.

Semifinals: St. Andrews `A' 186 (P.B. Parashar 48, B. Sandeep 44, Sunder Kumar four for 28) bt Samaritans 129 (Parashar four for 15); All Saints' HS 201 (S. Sandeep 67, Vikranth 36) bt St. Andrews `B' 189 (B. Anirudh 69, Ram Kumar 59, Wajahad four for eight).

Laxman to lead

V.V.S. Laxman will lead the Hyderabad seniors team for the all-India Coromandel King Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup cricket tournament to be held here from Sept. 2 to 20. All the players are requested to report at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium (Uppal) from August 28. The Combined Districts team for the Moin ud Dowla tournament was also announced.

The selectors also named a Hyderabad XI for a practice match against Tripura Cricket Association to be played at NFC on Aug. 28 and 29.

DSDO convenes meeting

The president and secretaries various sports associations have been requested to attend a meeting convened by the District Sports Development Officer in Visakhapatnam on Sept. 2 to discuss the district teams' preparations for the ensuing Chief Minister's Cup.

A list of provisionally selected players and their date of birth certificates and photographs along with the measurements for sports kits have to be submitted at the meeting, according to the DSDO K.V. Sankara Rao.

Paramveer bowls well

A good spell by Paramveer Singh (six for 80) and a century by Hari Haran (101 not out) were the highlights of the A-Division (two-day) league cricket championship match here on Saturday.

Paramveer Singh's spell helped SA Sports (Amberpet) record a 14-run win against Our's Cricket Club while Hari Haran's century (12 x 4) was the main performance for Gemini Friends in the drawn match against Budding Stars.

Double for RVM

Rajashree Vidya Mandir bagged a double by winning the boys and girls titles in the 18th Regal Sports inter-school volleyball tournament at Musheerabad Playground here.

RVM boys defeated Government School (Osmania) 25-21, 25-12 in the final with Sampath, Machender and Suresh combining well. In the girls' final, RVM got the better of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan 25-11, 25-13.
