ARSIKERE: Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly and former Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh has said that in the event of a mid-term election, the Congress would be led by president, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), Mallikarjun Kharge.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, he said that, with the simmering discontentment among Janata Dal (Secular) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators and the increase in internal squabbles, the Government might not last long.

When his attention was drawn to the reports of Maharashtra Governor S.M. Krishna's intention to return to State politics, he said his entry would boost confidence of workers. But, that would not alter the decision to make Mr. Kharge lead the party in the election, as the Congress came to power in almost all zilla panchayats, except in Hassan and Bangalore rural districts, under his leadership, he said.

The possibility of Mr. Krishna entering State politics depended on the decision of All India Congress Committee, he added.

Mr. Dharam Singh said the entry of former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had strengthened the Congress.
