Comfortable win for Kollam

Thiruvananthapuram: Kollam defeated Pathanamthitta by eight wickets to secure full points in the South zone under-19 inter-district cricket tournament at the Agriculture College ground on Sunday.

Pathanamthitta, which conceded a 117-run first innings lead, performed marginally better in its second knock.

A fighting century by Sibi Kumar (110) delayed the inevitable as Pathanamthitta set a 90-run victory target for Kollam. Kollam reached the target without much fuss losing just two wickets off 16 overs.

The win, the first in the competition for any side, fetched Kollam four points.

At Ashramam Maidan, the Thiruvanantapuram and Kottayam match ended in a draw.

However, Thiruvananthapuram, which took the first innings lead, got two points from the tie.

The highlight of the last day's play was a fine century by Nimish Latheef (112).

However, Kottayam in reply to Thiruvananthapuram's first innings score of 457 for four could manage only 302 for four off its mandatory 90 overs.

The scores:

Pathanamthitta 85 & 206 in 53 overs (Sibi Kumar 110, Philip 34, Deepan Raj five for 20, Iyer Karthik Suresh two for 31, Anas two for 53) lost to Kollam 202 & 92 for two in 15.1 overs (Subin Sulaiman 38)

Thiruvananthapuram 457 for four (Ali Asgar 173 not out, Sachin Mohan 156, Rahul 50) drew with Kottayam 302 for four in 90 overs (Nimish Latheef 112, Cibi 68, Christy Christopher 43, M.E. Sanut three for 42). — Principal Correspondent
