Loyola Whites makes it eight in a row

CHENNAI: Loyola Whites won the Bertram memorial shield for volleyball for the eighth time in a row in the Bertram memorial tournaments organised by Loyola College here on Saturday.

Loyola won the title with an all win semifinal league record. St. Joseph's College (Tiruchi) finished second with two wins, while Jamal Mohammed College (Tiruchi) took the third spot with a solitary victory.

In the last of the semifinal league matches, Loyola defeated St. Joseph's 25-17, 25-20, 25-14. Loyola held the upper hand right from the beginning and won the first set easily.

St. Joseph's started the second set on a positive note and was leading initially. But helped by some good blocking coupled with quality spiking, Loyola took a 23-17 lead and from there on, there was no looking back.

The St. Joseph's players looked out of sorts in the third set and were in no mood to make a comeback. Loyola took full advantage of it and finished off the match in style.

Jamal Mohammed College edged out Sacred Heart College (Tirupattur) 25-20, 25-16, 25-20 in another semifinal league match.
