NEW DELHI: A scuffle broke out between members of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at the Dean of Students' Welfare office in Delhi University on Saturday. Amrita Sharma, an independent candidate, alleged that she was physically stopped from submitting a demand draft to contest the students' union polls as she had the same name as a NSUI candidate. "Muscle power is being used to stop candidates from submitting their drafts. Amrita Sharma is not an ABVP candidate, but we got involved only because we felt it was important to support an independent candidate. If things continue like this, then no independent candidate will ever contest. '' said Subhash Sharma of the ABVP. For its part, the NSUI claimed that Amrita Sharma had "undemocratically'' tried to submit the draft well after the time limit.
