VIJAYAWADA: The Governorpet police on Saturday arrested Musunuri Srinivasa Rao alias Katragadda Srinu, an accused person in an attack on Congress sympathiser Vangaveeti Santan Kumar at City Civil Courts on August 18. He was produced before the third metropolitan magistrate and sent to remand. Two persons had opened fire from a close range on Santan when he boarded his vehicle after attending a court case. Santan's associate Seelam Raja Vara Prasad died on the spot, while Santan escaped with injuries. Santan's younger brother Meganath, in his complaint with the Governorpet police, charged Telugu Desam Party leader Katradagga Naga Malleswara Rao alias Babu and Katragadda Srinu with masterminding the attack. The names of Babu and Srinu figured in the FIR. Srinu surrendered before the High Court on Friday and pleaded innocence. The High Court directed him to present himself before the City Police Commissioner. On Saturday morning, the Governorpet police arrested Srinu from the Commissionerate and produced him before the court. Though Governorpet police inspector K.V. Rama Rao filed a petition with the court seeking permission to take Srinu into police custody for interrogation, the court postponed the hearing on the petition to Monday.
