New Delhi:
Under attack over the Broadcast Services Regulation Bill, the Government has said the proposed regulator will be autonomous and that it is not in favour of mandatory 10 per cent socially relevant programming on private channels.
Information and Broadcasting Minister P.R. Dasmunsi told Karan Thapar in the programme `Devil's Advocate' on CNN-IBN that when the broadcast bill is finalised, it will ensure there is no interference in the current affairs and news desk of any channel. Besides, the Bill would ensure that programme content would be excluded from editorial content. ``If something is there which is sensitive in nature and can create a problem, the government can advise. But advise, not mandate." PTI
