Japanese woman robbed of mobile phone

She was threatened by an autorickshaw driver with a knife

BANGALORE: An autorickshaw driver robbed a Japanese woman of a mobile phone worth Rs. 5,700 at knifepoint in Indiranagar police station limits on Friday.

The police said that after dinner at a hotel, Norika Suzuki, who works as a financial analyst here, and her friend boarded an autorickshaw at 2nd Stage, Domlur Layout. After dropping her friend at Hotel Leela Palace, she asked the driver to proceed towards her flat on 100 ft road, 2nd Stage, HAL.

Instead of taking her to the destination, the driver took a wrong route.

When she questioned him, he forced her out of the autorickshaw, threatened her with a knife and snatched her mobile phone.

As Suzuki raised an alarm, the driver sped away, the police said.

The Indiranagar police have registered a case.

Man murdered

A 50-year-old man was clubbed to death in MICO Layout police station limits on Friday night.

The police gave his name as Lokanathan.

He reportedly had an affair with Devi (45), a resident of J.D. Mara slum on Bannerghatta Road. Devi's grown-up sons were opposed to Lokanathan coming to their house, the police said.

When he visited Devi's house on Friday night, her son Kutty attacked Lokanathan with a cricket bat, killing him instantaneously, they said.

The MICO Layout police have registered a case.

Fire accident

Fire broke out at a garment factory in Madivala police station limits on Friday night, destroying property worth lakhs of rupees.

The police said that around 11 p.m. following an electric short circuit fire broke out at M.S. Kids Collection at Bommasandra on Begur Road. With the help of nine fire tenders, the firemen put out the blaze around 4.30 a.m. on Saturday.

No one was injured in the incident.

The Madivala police have registered a case.
