VALANCHERY: Minister for Education M.A. Baby has asked students to keep abreast of the latest developments in digital technology.

Inaugurating a national seminar on `E-learning — emerging vistas in education and skill development' at M.E.S. Keveeyam College here on Monday, Mr. Baby said the services of private sector in the State had been without profit motive in the past.

But today, he said, education has become a profitable trade. The Government was determined to check the profit-making trend seen in the sector, he said.

K.T. Jaleel, MLA, who presided over the function, refuted allegations that educational policies of the State Government were against minorities.

He said the recent proliferation of self-financing institutions was an `inevitable evil.'

Kerala IT Mission Manager Anwar Sadat spoke on the evolution of digital technology and its vast potential.

Akshaya district secretary M. Salim, managing director of Britco & Bridco Hamza Anchumukkil, Head of the Department of IT at MES College of Engineering C.K. Raju and Karunakaran Nair, a digital technology expert, presented papers.
