GREEN TERMINUS: R.Balasubramanian, Managing Director, MTC, planting a sapling at the Anna Nagar terminus last week.
CHENNAI: A dozen Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) bus termini in the city will soon get a touch of natural green. Under the programme, 20 saplings were planted last week in Anna Nagar. D. Vijayabhaskaran, president, Exnora Green Cross, initiated the programme. Most of the 24 termini in the city did not have tree cover. Apart from providing a shade, the green buffer would help in reducing pollution in the terminus, he said. Exnora volunteers would maintain the saplings for six months and MTC employees agreed to protect them. In case of damage, Exnora would replace the saplings, Mr Vijayabhaskaran said. T. Nagar, Broadway, High Court, Saidapet Bridge, Tiruvanmiyur, Avadi, Kalaignar Nagar, Anna Square, Foreshore Estate, Iyappanthangal and Tiruvottiyur were the other termini where the programme would be launched in a phased manner. R. Balasubramanian, Managing Director, MTC, assured the Exnora volunteers that a borewell would be dug at Anna Nagar terminus. A private company provided guards for the saplings, Mr Vijayabhaskaran said.
