HYDERABAD: The pen behind immortal classics like `Donga Ramudu,' `Gundamma Kadha' and `Ramudu Bheemudu' is no more. Noted Telugu film story and dialogue writer D.V. Narasa Raju died here on Monday following an illness. He was 86. Born in Thalluru village in Sattenapalli mandal of Guntur district on July 15, 1920, Dhaatla Venkata Narasa Raju was closely associated with NTR and ANR and two production houses that defined Telugu cinema in the '50s, '60s and '70s Vijaya and Vauhini. Having entered the Telugu film world in 1951, he went on to work for 92 films in an illustrious career that spanned not only writing stories, dialogues and film direction, but also his endeavour to showcase Telugu cinema and language in his inimitable writing style that came laced with wit and satire.
Subtle humour
He penned a series of articles that came with his stamp of subtle humour and sharp criticism in several magazines and newspapers. He wrote scripts for super hits like `Donga Ramudu', `Gundamma Kadha' `Raja Makutam', `Ramudu Bheemudu', `Bhaktha Prahladha', `Rangula Raatnam' and the comedy `Yamagola' starring NTR in the '80s.
In a message, Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy said the Telugu film world had lost a creative writer. TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu, BJP leaders N. Indrasena Reddy and B. Dattatreya and writer Parachuri Gopalakrishna condoled his death.
