THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government has directed grama panchayats in the State to clear their backlog in preparing annual accounts before November 30.

Local Administration Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty said in a release here on Monday that the Government had introduced a one-time finalisation scheme for grama panchayats to clear the backlog in completing the income and expenditure details between 1997-98 and 2005-06. The Comptroller and Auditor General, Local Fund Audit Department and the Assembly committee concerned had pointed out several times about the delay in preparing accounts and the financial statement.
