Programme to provide one lakh jobs

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa on Monday announced a programme to provide short-term employment-cum-training to one lakh unemployed and unskilled youth every year with an emphasis on providing workforce to sick small-scale industries in the State.

Mr. Yediyurappa told presspersons here on Monday that the Department of Industries would give a subsidy of Rs. 750 a month to workers for a period of three to six months depending on the nature of training they got in an industry. A sum of Rs. 35 crore had been set apart for the subsidy and the order in this regard issued, he said.

District industries centres had been asked to identify unskilled youth and provide them employment-cum-training, The idea was to provide some support to small industries and offer technical training to workers so that they could seek employment elsewhere, he said.

Mr. Yediyurappa said that the motor vehicles, commercial taxes and excise departments were mobilising taxes quite well. He termed baseless the allegation levelled by Congress leader Siddaramaiah that liquor seconds and thirds had been allowed to be back in circulation for a consideration.
