PAKUR: The vice-president of BJP's Jharkhand unit and former MP Som Marandi on Monday resigned from the primary membership of the party, three weeks after getting a show cause for anti-party activities. ``BJP has failed to rein in corruption in the State. It continues to ignore Santhal Pargana's interests'', Mr. Som Marandi, who was an MP in 1998, said while announcing his resignation from the party. The State unit had served the show cause notice after Mr. Som Marandi's tilt towards former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi, who had also resigned from the party in May. Mr. Som Marandi publicly supported Mr. Babulal Marandi's recent demand for a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in a mine-lease renewal matter. Asked whether he would join Mr. Babulal Marandi's Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Democratic) during the non-political forum's rally here on Wednesday, he said to wait for a day or two for his announcement. "The ministers do not have confidence in the Chief Minister and so is the case with the party members' relation with the state leadership...how can I work in such a situation?'' he asked. Along with Mr. Som Marandi, three other BJP leaders in the Santhal region also quit the party.- PTI
