CHENNAI : The Teynampet branch of Co-optex, Vanavil, is geared to meet the demands of its Onam customers. The showroom has organised a weeklong sale of Onam special mundu, dhotis and saris. Handlooms Minister N.K.K.P. Raja, who inaugurated the exposition on Monday, announced an additional 10 per cent discount, apart from the regular 20 per cent discount, on Onam special products. He also affixed the first Handlooms Mark on Co-optex products. The organisation had sought the mark with an aim of promoting its products in the domestic and export market. Special designs have been introduced in the `Yuva Churidar/Salwar' collection section too. Customers can look forward to be `blessed by Mahabali' and witness traditional kottu melam, oppana dance and mohini attam in the evening. The programmes have been organised by Sangamithra Cultural Association. A pookolam contest will be conducted on Saturday. To enter the contest, contact Parameshwaran Nair at 98841-40275. Kurinji Women's Self Help Group from Chitlapakkam will sell delicacies from Kerala during the exposition. Others, who participated in the inauguration, were C.P. Singh, secretary, M. Malik Feroze Khan, director, Handlooms and Textiles, K. V. V. Mohanan, vice-president, Confederation of Tamil Nadu Malayalee Associations and M.P. Nirmala, managing director of Co-optex.
