HYDERABAD: Eighteen members of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) were suspended for the day on Monday when they continued to press their demand for an Assembly resolution on separate Telangana and once again tried to stall the proceedings.

The House could not transact any business for three consecutive days last week when TRS members staged protests on the floor of the Assembly.

As on the previous days, slogan-shouting TRS members stormed the well holding placards soon after Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy disallowed their adjournment motion seeking passage of resolution. Telugu Desam members also stood up at the same time when their motion demanding a discussion on the alleged failure of the Government to check the spread of chikungunya was disallowed.

The Speaker adjourned the House within ten minutes of the commencement of the proceedings after his appeal to the TRS legislators to maintain order went in vain.

He also sounded a word of caution to them, and expressed concern that they had tested the patience of the House. After the adjournment, the Speaker held a meeting with all the floor leaders in his chambers in an attempt to break the impasse. When the TRS group continued to disrupt proceedings on resumption after about an hour, Mr. Reddy named its members even as Finance and Legislative Affairs Minister K. Rosaiah moved a motion seeking their suspension for a day.

Marshals stepped in and physically removed some of the suspended members when they refused to leave.

Thereafter, the TRS members staged a brief sit-in at the entrance to the lobbies and later held a mock Assembly on the premises. They re-enacted some of the scenes witnessed in the House. Nayani Narasimha Reddy donned the role of Chief Minister, Kasipeta Lingaiah took the position of Leader of the Opposition and A. Govind Naik was the Speaker. In a parody, Mr. Narasimha Reddy justified the stepping up of water supply for irrigation to the Rayalaseema region by increasing the capacity of Pothireddypadu head-regulator.
