GULBARGA: Members of the Kalyana Karnataka Physically Challenged Persons Horata Samiti on Tuesday took out a procession and organised a protest demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office in the city demanding full implementation of the orders passed by the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT) directing the Government to reserve 5 per cent of the posts in all recruitments for the physically challenged persons. The processionists, consisting of many physically challenged persons including women, led by its president Srimanth Holkar, submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to the Deputy Commissioner. In the memorandum, the samiti said that in the recent recruitment drive taken up by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) to fill the Class I and II officers, the physically challenged persons had not been given their due. The memorandum said while only 17 physically challenged persons had been selected out of the 1,067 candidates for Class I posts and another 19 physically challenged candidates were selected to the Class II posts out of the 1,000 candidates selected. In the recruitment to posts of teachers in schools, KPTCL, Transport Department and in filling the backlog posts, the physically challenged persons had not been given any reservation. The samiti demanded the Government to take up a survey of all vacant posts in government departments and give due share to the physically challenged people in these departments. The memorandum pointed out that the KAT in its judgement passed on August 25 this year had held that the Government should reserve at least 5 per cent of the posts for the physically challenged while filling the vacancies.
