NEW DELHI: Navdeep Singh knocked out second-seeded Yuri Bezeruk of Australia 6-3, 6-2 in the pre-quarterfinals of the ITF Satellite tennis circuit Masters here on Tuesday. Navdeep served very well throughout the match and fired three aces in what proved to be the last game in which Bezeruk fought gamely to save three matchpoints. Navdeep will next meet Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan who got his revenge against Pathanjali Ravishankar in another lively contest that spanned two hours. Seven Indians made it to the quarterfinals and Aqeel Khan of Pakistan sweated his way into the last eight-stage with a three-set victory over Vishnu Vardhan.
Brilliant returns
The third leg champion Divij Sharan came up with brilliant returns to pip Nima Roshan of the U.S.,while Vivek Shokeen needed five matchpoints to defeat the former Asian junior champion Tai-Wei Liu of Chinese Taipei. Vijay Kannan recovered from 3-5 down in the decider and later 3-5 in the tie-breaker to beat Purav Raja. He will meet Aditya Madkekar, who ousted Stephen Amritraj of the U.S. in another three-setter. Ashutosh Singh set up a quarterfinal clash against Aqeel Khan.
