Pondicherry
Special Correspondent
Pondicherry: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy told the Assembly during question hour on Tuesday that the Pondicherry Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) would operate more buses. He told Ohm Sakthi Segar (AIADMK) and R. Siva (DMK) that the Government had at one stage received applications from private players to issue permits to operate mini buses and as many as 464 applications were submitted with a total fee of Rs 13.92 lakh. But the Government had dropped the idea and the amount collected from the applicants would be returned to them after effecting amendments to the rules governing permits. He said school students would have special buses and there would be no difficulty to the commuters. Mr. Siva said that there were still areas where shortage of buses was causing hardships to the commuters. He referred to the villages like Nettapakkam where passengers were seen travelling on the roof-top of the buses. P.R. Siva (MDMK) wanted adequate buses in Karaikal region.
