A peek into world of terrorists

It now seems almost impossible to imagine a world without terror lurking in the background. Bringing home this bitter truth is Discovery Channel's new series, "Terror Strikes", that goes on the air this coming Friday.

Chronicling terrorist attacks of the past four decades, viewers will get a chance to peek into the secret worlds of terrorists, discover the truths behind the murders, sieges, suicide bombings and nerve-agent attacks. The 11-episode series will be aired every day at 9 a.m. from September 1 to September 11.

Beginning with "7/7 Bombers -- A Psychological Investigation", the programme makes an attempt to reveal the mind-set of the London bombers who carried out a series of coordinated blasts in the public transport system in July last year. The episode presents a chilling psychological autopsy, piecing together the mental state of the bombers on their final and fateful journey.

This will be followed by "Beslan Siege", a horrifying event which transpired in a small town in Russia, when a school was captured by a group of terrorists. The blood-curdling siege finally ended with 340-odd hostages killed, over 170 of them children.

The series includes an episode on the terrorist attack during the Olympics in Munich in September 1972 when 11 Israeli athletes were killed after being taken hostage by a little-known radical group called Black September. "Munich: The Real Assassins" uncovers the truth about the revenge mission to systematically hunt down the members of the Black September.

The other episodes, "Bali Bombings" and "Massacre In Madrid", focus on the bombs that blew apart two nightclubs in Bali in October 2002 ending the revelry and on March 11 in 2004 when ten bombs exploded in the centre of Spain's capital Madrid killing nearly 200 people and injuring over 1,800 causing incalculable pain and mayhem.

Other episodes of this riveting series include "Black September and Lockerbie Bombing", "One of America's Own -- Oklahoma City Bombing", "Terror in Tokyo", "Last Hour of Flight 11" and "The Flight that Fought Back". -- Madhur Tankha
