Strategic blunder

Pakistan has committed a strategic blunder by killing Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti, leader of the Jhamoori Watan Party, using technology and war machines obtained for fighting Al Qaeda. The Sardars, Bugtis, Marris, and Mengals, who have formed a joint front to demand Balochistan's just share in development efforts, are only going to become more determined in carrying on the struggle raging in the province since 1947 without Pakistan meaningfully addressing the people's concerns.

Subramanyam Sridharan,
Bangalore

* * *

It is surprising that Pakistan, which describes India's counter-insurgency operations in Kashmir as human rights violations, had to resort to a military operation to kill the Baloch leader. Such heavy-handed suppression of Baloch rebels should serve as an eye-opener to the pro-Pakistan Kashmiri separatists. Pakistan has miserably failed to address the grievances and aspirations of its own people. How can it address the aspirations of its neighbouring nation's separatists?
