Exam at Regional Science Centre

Kozhikode: The Regional Science Centre and Planetarium (RSC) has invited registrations for the Astronomy, Physics, Chemistry and Biology Olympiad 2006-07. The winners of this competition will represent India at the International Olympiad.

RSC project coordinator V.S. Ramachandran said here on Tuesday that the examination would be held at the centre on November 26. The last date for registration is September 15. The fee per head per subject is Rs.50.

Students of Class XII or lower who have not attained 19 years of age can register for physics, chemistry and biology examinations.

There are two categories for the astronomy examination.

Candidates should not have attained 15 years of age as on January 1, 2007 and they should be studying in Class IX or lower if they want to compete in the junior category.

For participating in the senior category, candidates should not have attained 17 years of age as on January 1, 2007 and they should not have passed Class XII.

Nearly 300 toppers from each group will qualify for the second round. The top 10 per cent of the candidates will be given certificates from the RSC, 1 per cent State-wise and 1 per cent nation-wise, Mr. Ramachandran said.

Twenty-five toppers from each group will qualify for the third round.

Training camps will be organised for the participants of the third round and final selection for attending the International Olympiad.
