Assessment of councillors of Mysore shows them in poor light

MYSORE: The assessment of elected representatives of the Mysore City Corporation Council by non-government organisations indicates to their failure to fulfil their obligations during their tenure which ended recently. Repeated assurances held out by successive Mayors since 2000 have not been implemented underlining the fact that the taxpayers of Mysore have been poorly served. The organisations have raised some questions over non-performance of the councillors, including: What has been done by the corporators to stop the construction of a building in Cheluvamba Park in violation of Parks and Open Spaces Act? Bhamy V. Shenoy of Mysore Grahakara Parishat said, "Even if one tries, it may be difficult to find one good thing the corporation has done to prevent the all-round decline of our once lovely city during the last five years. The list of their failure and the unfulfilled promises is a long one."

The grahakara parishat listed out a few other issues highlighting the failure of the councillors and the City Corporation. For instance, a jackwell project at the Belagola pump house was to be completed in 2003 and the authorities promised that it would be completed in two months. But after three years, the project estimated at Rs. 60 lakh is yet to be completed. There was a question mark on the quality of water supplied and instead of acting on the suggestions offered by the non-government organisations, their action was criticised though water tested for contamination and analysed in chemical laboratories vindicated the organisations' claims that it was contaminated.
