CHENNAI: Members of the Advocates Forum for Social Justice staged a demonstration in front of the Madras High Court on Monday, protesting the "dilution" of the Bill envisaging 27 per cent reservation for students from Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in institutions of higher education. Describing it as "betrayal" of faith, the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK)-affiliated forum said the Centre should not have referred the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Bill 2006 to the Parliamentary Standing Committee, and that it should not have been introduced on the last day of the monsoon session. K. Balu, president of the Forum, said exclusion of 17 Central Government-aided institutions as well as private educational establishments too amounted to dilution of the original proposal.
