CHENNAI: Super-imposition test on the skull of a skeleton unearthed at Rajendram and the DNA analysis have revealed that they are of the missing teacher, Meenakshi of Kulithalai. Following the findings, the State Crime Branch Criminal Investigation Department (CB CID) is likely to file the charge sheet in the case in the first week of September, a senior police officer said. Two persons had already been arrested in connection with the case relating to the disappearance of the teacher. There had been no further arrest, he said. Meenakshi was reported missing from October 19, 2004. Following the filing of a habeas corpus petition by her husband, Jothi Ramalingam, before the High Court, a CB CID probe was ordered. This was because he felt that the local police did not act promptly on his complaint. But no breakthrough was made. In March this year, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court directed the CBI to investigate the case. However, the State Government obtained an interim stay.
Skeleton unearthed
Recently, a skeleton was unearthed at a banana grove at Rajendram, near Kulithalai. The police sent the skull to Chennai for a super-imposition test and DNA analysis, amid doubts being expressed in various circles as to whether the remains discovered were that of the missing person. The charge sheet in the case was now under finalisation. It would be filed in the jurisdictional court soon, the officer said.
