Bangalore: Dinesh Mongia and Yashpal Singh slammed centuries and helped Sanmar Chemplast gain a 123-run first innings lead over Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) in the KSCA all-India invitation cricket tournament final here on Tuesday. On the second day, Chemplast posted 425 for seven in its first innings while easing past IOC's 302. At close, IOC was four for no loss in two overs.
Crucial stand
After openers Petson Mathew (45) and Ram Kumar (46) laid the foundation with a 76-run partnership, southpaw Mongia (141, 168b, 17x4, 1x6) and Yashpal (105, 157b, 7x4, 2x6) shared a 242-run fourth-wicket partnership. Mongia cut and drove hard and later in the innings, used his feet and lofted the spinners over the inner ring. A delectable late-cut off Cheteshwar Pujara helped him reach a well-deserved century. Mongia eventually fell to a tired shot, swatting seamer Anand Rajan straight to long-off and Yashpal too was pouched in the deep. The scores: IOC 302 in 86 overs and four for no loss in two overs vs. Sanmar Chemplast 425 for seven in 90 overs (Dinesh Mongia 141, Yashpal Singh 105, Ram Kumar 46, Petson 45).
