HPS (Begumpet) posts win

HYDERABAD : Hyderabad Public School (Begumpet) scored a 2-0 win against Moulana Azad Memorial High School via tie-breaker in the final of the Maj Dyan Chand one-day inter-schools hockey tournament sponsored by Indiana Sports at Begumpet Police Stadium here on Tuesday.

The results: Semifinals: HPS, Begumpet bt Vijaya 3-2; Moulana Azad bt KV, Trimulgherry 3-2. Quarterfinals: Vijaya bt HPS, Ramanthapur 1-0; HPS, Begumpet bt Mamata 2-0; Moulana Azad bt St. Joseph's 2-0; KV, Trimulgherry bt KV, Uppal 4-3.

Rain plays spoilsport

For the second day on Tuesday, play was abandoned due to heavy rains overnight in thethree-day final of The Hindu Trophy (under-19) cricket tournament between St. John's Church College and Wesley Junior College at Gymkhana Grounds here.

The officials have decided to convert the match into a one-day affair on Wednesday with 50 overs each.

Narrow win for Tripura

Tripura XI scored a narrow, nine-run win against Hyderabad XI in a practice match at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium (Uppal) here.

The scores: Tripura XI 215 for eight (Rajesh 71, C. Subal 60 not out) bt Hyderabad XI 206 for eight (Akshit Reddy 80, S.Tushar four for 49).

Sudhir, Januja shine

Centuries by B. Sudhir (114) for Telangana and Akbar Januja (113) for Zinda Tilismath were the highlights in their drawn encounter in the A-Division (two-day) league cricket championship here.

Scores: A-Division (two-day) league: Telangana 322 for six (B. Sudhir 114, Pankaj Ghalke 74, T. Balakrishna 50, S. Abhista Rao 44 not out) drew with Zinda Tilismath 269 for six (Akbar Januja 113, Atif Hyder 71).

A-Division (one-day) league: Vijaypuri Willomen 206 (Issac Raj Kiran 52, Ian Gager 53, Abizer five for 27) bt Azad 156 (Shaik Azmath eight for 38).

Inter-district (under-19): Khammam 105 (Bharath Chandra six for 23) lost to Mahaboobnagar 107 for four.

Easy win for Mamatha

Mamatha School defeated Picket School 6-2 in the girls' section of the inaugural Gymkhana Rovers handball tournament for boys and girls at Gymkhana Grounds here on Tuesday.

The results: Girls: St.Philomena bt Picket School 8-4; St. Philomena bt Parsi School 5-1; Mamata bt Parsi 6-2; Mamatha bt Picket 6-2; St. Joseph's bt Trimulgherry 10-1; St. Philomena bt Medak 8-1; St. Joseph's bt Mamatha School 7-3.

Boys: Govt School bt Mamatha 8-1; Trimulgherryi bt Mamata 5-2; Picket bt St. Joseph's 6-2; JKPH bt Shivrampally 9-2; Govt School bt Medak 13-12; Shivrampally bt Trimulgherry 5-4; Govt School bt St.Joseph's 10-2.

Youth: Girls: Villa Marie drew with St.Ann's 4-4; Villa Marie bt Bhavan's 5-2; St.Ann's bt Bhavan's 11-4.

SBI struggles

State Bank of India scored a 25-13, 25-18, 25-21 win against Hyderabad Mayors in the A-Division volleyball league championship at Fateh Maidan Indoor Stadium here.

Other results: Army Green bt DRDO 25-18, 25-17, 25-20; Income Tax bt APSRTC 25-18, 25-5, 25-16; Army Red bt AP Police 25-16, 25-14, 25-14.

Easy for Gymkhana XI

Gymkhana Boys XI scored a 4-1 win against State Veterans XI in an exhibition hockey match at Gymkhana Grounds organised to commemorate hockey legend Dhyan Chand's birth anniversary celebrations. For the winners, Kiran netted a brace while Raju and Mahender struck once each. For the losers, Bheem Singh converted a penalty-corner.

Narrow win for Gowtham

Gowtham School scored a 20-run win against All Saint's High School in the Glendale Trophy inter-schools (under-13) cricket tournament here.

The scores: Gowtham School 77 for seven in 15 overs bt All Saint's HS 57.

HPS Begumpet 95 (Sai Teja four for 27, Bidyachandra four for five) bt Ivy League 69 (Sashank four for 11).

Don Bosco HS 174 for six (S.Nikhilesh 81) bt DRS School 15 for four. By spin of coin after rain stopped play.

Corporate football
