Saeed re-arrested

Nirupama Subramanian

ISLAMABAD: Hafiz Saeed, leader of the Jamaat-ud-Daawa (JuD), was re-arrested after a brief hour of freedom on Monday. His lawyer said there was no information on where he has been taken.

The Lahore High Court had quashed his August 10 detention on Monday. Lawyer Nazir Ahmed Ghazi said the JuD chief, who also founded the Lashkar-e-Taiba, was allowed to leave the guest house, where he was under detention, for his home around 8.30 p.m. on Monday night.

But the police turned up at his home an hour later and took him away. He said the police told him that Mr. Saeed was being re-arrested for a period of two months. The Saeed family planned to challenge the re-arrest in the Lahore High Court.
