Kollam: Improvement of basic infrastructure and the need for a basic policy were the twin points that emerged at the seminar on the development of sports in Kerala, organised by the Kerala Hockey Association, here on Tuesday.

Inaugurating the seminar, Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan, said that the Government was committed to the overall development of sports in the State and every effort would be made to improve the infrastructure.

He said the Government was also sympathetic to KHA's demand to allot suitable land for laying an astro-turf in Kollam.

In his presidential address, Kollam SP and former international volleyball player, S. Gopinath, highlighted the need to identify the specific goals within the policy framework of the Government.

Arjuna awardees K.M. Beenamol, S. Omanakumari, Padmini Selvan, former KSC vice-president K. Thankappan, physical fitness expert Usha S. Nair, SAI assistant director M.S. Varghese also spoke on the occasion. — Special Correspondent
