TN takes honours

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu with an all-win record in the super-league won the title at the sixth all-India BSNL basketball tournament here on Tuesday. Holder Kerala with two wins secured the second spot, while Orissa finished third with a solitary victory.

In the last of the super-league matches, Tamil Nadu defeated Kerala 88-66. Tamil Nadu started in style, scoring two three-pointers. Helped by some accurate passing it was leading 28-16 at the end of the first quarter.

The Tamil Nadu players found the target with ease and also counter-attacked well. On the other hand, Kerala players missed even easy chances. By the end of the third quarter, Tamil Nadu was up 72-43.Jayashree Mahesh, Chief Manager, ICICI and C. Jayasankar Menon, former basketball international gave away the prizes.

The results (super-league):

Tamil Nadu 88 (S. Sivarajan 25, C. Mohan Raj 24, T. Raja 13, T. Saravana Kumar 11, R. Delhiraj 11) bt Kerala 66 (Anoop 26, Abilash 16).

Orissa 86 (A.K. Nayak 33, Sashi K. Mohanty 15, Saroj K.R. Behera 15) bt West Bengal 71 (Joseph Gomes 18, Debasish Saha 13, Asijit Jash 13).
