We have been taught to respect umpires: Lillee

Chennai: Pace bowling legend Dennis Lillee believes the umpire's word should be accepted as final on the question of tampering with the ball. "We have been taught to respect the umpire and his verdict and why should it change in this instance?" asked Lillee, who arrived here for yet another coaching stint at the MRF Pace Foundation.

He felt that `ball tampering,' in one form or the other, has been prevalent since the game began. "That is why the umpire is in charge and he needs to be backed, whether you like it or not," said Lillee. — Special Correspondent
