Correspondent

Union Minister for Communications Dayanidhi Maran invited for the occasion

  • Area for SEB identified and spade work in progress
  • The Coast Guard base will come up shortly near the port
  • `Centre for sustainable aquaculture' also to come up

Kakinada: The work on Software Park of India (STPI) is going on according to schedule and likely to be inaugurated before December, according to M M Pallamraju, Union Minister of State for Defence.

He told newsmen here on Tuesday that the STPI was coming up fast on the Collectorate campus and the Chief Minister would inaugurate the same shortly. He said he had invited Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dayanidhi Maran to the function as chief guest. Pointing out that Kakinada was poised for accelerated development, he said the SEZ would accommodate a lot of export-oriented industrial units paving the way for employment generation, mostly to local youth. Clarifying that setting up of a refinery in the SEZ was a certainty, he said the area was identified and spade work was in progress.

Mr. Pallamraju said the Coast Guard base would come up shortly near the port much in advance and the Union Minister for Defence would lay the foundation stone before the year-end. Another project to come up here soon, he said was the `centre for sustainable aquaculture' for which the site was already identified.

    FM radio station

On the long-awaited FM radio station, for which foundation stone was laid here during the NDA government, the Minister said for obvious reasons it was shelved.

Instead he said, a private FM radio station would come up shortly at Rajahmundry. A repeater station only would come up here to support the main station.
