Rs. 809-cr. aid sought for power supply under Indiramma scheme

    HYDERABAD: The power sector in Andhra Pradesh topped the CRISIL rating for 2004-05 with 55.81 marks though six marks were cut due to supply of free power to farmers.

    Disclosing this in the Assembly during question hour, Power Minister Mohd. Ali Shabbir, told S. Udayabhanu (Congress) that the Ministry of Power had entrusted the work of rating power utilities to M/s Power Finance Corporation limited by fixing certain parameters. PFC got the work done through M/s CRISIL and ICRA.

    He said Gujarat with 53.66 marks was ranked second.

    He said, the Government had sought Rs. 809 crores of Central assistance under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameena Vidyut Yojana for providing power connections to 18 lakh houses under Indiramma scheme, he informed the Assembly on Tuesday.

    He told Mr. Udayabhanu that a meter and other equipment would be supplied if the consumer paid Rs. 125 for each connection.

    Fish markets

    Animal Husbandry Minister G. Surya Rao informed K. Chittabbai that 65 fish markets were being modernised. The modernisation of fish market at Amalapuram at a cost of Rs. 11 crores was nearing completion.

    Trafficking in women

    Women Development and Child Welfare Minister N.Rajyalaksmi in a statement tabled said 25,006 community vigilant groups were formed at the grassroots level to combat trafficking in women and children.

    Listing measures to rehabilitate sex workers, she said that 26 Swadhar shelter homes have been sanctioned by the Centre to NGOs in AP for rescue and rehabilitation of women involved in trafficking, along with destitute women. Recently, the Government had doubled the relief to Rs.10,000 for children and women rescued from trafficking.
