Rupee ends flat against $

MUMBAI: In restricted activity, the rupee ended flat against the U.S. currency even as the dollar closed weak against other major world currencies.

In narrow movements on the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened firm at 46.49/50 a dollar and after moving in a range of 46.4800 and 46.5400, closed at 46.50/51, showing hardly any change from Monday's close of 46.5050/5150.

The initial firmness in rupee was due to dollar selling by oil PSUs after fall in world crude oil prices along with weakness in dollar, forex dealers said.

Crude oil prices fell to lowest levels in two months after tropical storm

Ernesto was downgraded from a hurricane and the forecast path was changed to the Florida area rather than toward the key Gulf of Mexico's energy producing and refining areas. October crude oil was down by $2.01 to $70.50 a barrel, they added.

Elsewhere, the rupee ended weak against the British pound sterling, euro and the Japanese yen. — PTI
