Firm global advices boost sentiment


MUMBAI: Firm global advices boosted sentiment on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the benchmark, Sensex, rallied by 87 points to close above the 11700-level at 11706.85 for the first time since May 17.

Prices shot up by midsession on heavy buying activity by both foreign and domestic funds in almost all segments. However, select index-based scrips tended to move down towards the end on fresh profit taking and the index surrendered some of the midday gains.

The BSE 30-share index opened firm at 11651.96 against Monday's close of 11619.52 and shot up further to a high of 11739.77. Later, it moved down marginally and ended at 11706.85, showing a smart gain of 87.33 points.

Attributing the sudden heavy buying to firm global advices, brokers said in the Asian market the Hang Seng shot up by 160.92 points, Nikkei by 127.97 points and Kospi by 16.72 points. Similarly, on the Wall Street, the Dow Industrial Average and the Nasdaq Composite Index showed impressive gains. Buying activity was mainly seen in consumer durable, PSU, IT and technology segments. — PTI
