`Chief Minister protecting Joseph'

Staff Reporter

KOTTAYAM: Congress leader and the former member of the legislative Assembly from Thodupuzha P.T. Thomas has alleged that the Chief Minister is protecting those involved in the `corruption' in the Maitree Housing Programme.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, Mr. Thomas said instead of expediting steps in the investigative process, the authorities were creating a smokescreen claiming that the court had absolved the accused in the case.

He had written to the Chief Minister expressing his willingness to produce evidence in connection with the scheme, Mr. Thomas said.

Though the Chief Minister had earlier claimed that he would oust the Minister involved the moment he got evidences, he had not responded to the letter so far, Mr. Thomas said. According to him, the related case No. WP(c)16761/06 was still pending before the court and it had not been handed over to the Vigilance Department for investigation. He urged the Chief Minister to desist from protecting the Minister, who, he said, was involved in one of the most serious corruption allegations in the history of the State.
