TIRUPATI: While many find solving The Hindu Crossword and Sudoku a daunting task, for the students of Krishna Reddy's Sri Chaitanya Children's Academy they are easy-to-work-out, wholesome entertainers. Newspaper in Education (NIE), a programme envisaged by The Hindu to benefit schoolchildren, was introduced in this school on Tuesday, along with Pratibha Vidyalaya and Ravindra Bharati High School. The thatched roof classrooms here, resembling a gurukul, more than conveyed that the school was for high quality, no-nonsense education. Specially-designed modules like vocabulary enrichment, creative writing and importance of listening were provided to the students of Classes VII, VIII and IX. The children got cleared their doubts on anagrams, homonyms, palindromes, uses of Thesaurus and dictionary. Principal P. Chandramouli explained that as many parents did not subscribe to newspapers, the management had allotted 20 minutes to the students for newspaper reading everyday. "As today's newspaper turns history tomorrow, it is important to be abreast with the latest developments."
While Namratha, an Class VIII student felt that she had developed a keen interest towards macro economics by reading the business pages of The Hindu , another student Harsha expressed happiness on getting to read more interesting stuff about the IT revolution and the Internet.
