BCIC welcomes new policy

Special Correspondent

`Key to success lies in sincere implementation'

Bangalore: The Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC) has welcomed the new industrial policy (2006-11), particularly its move to develop and create infrastructure, standard as well as specialised, in advance.

BCIC president Venkat Kedlaya said the objectives of the policy and the strategies laid out for the growth of GSDP, development of industry in the State, dispersal of industry to backward regions, strengthening existing infrastructure, development of specialised industrial zones and special economic zones, emphasis on cluster and corridor development and upgrading infrastructure, promotion of human resource development and agro-industry along with the small-scale sector were all welcome features.

He said the proposal to create a minimum of 5,000 acres of quality industrial infrastructure in the five-year period was highly desirable, so also the emphasis on human resource development and creation of specialised skills development institutions at key locations for vocational training.

The BCIC, he said, hoped that the Government would "scrupulously implement" the policy in the next five years as the track record on implementation of past policies had been discouraging, to say the least. "The key to the success of the policy lies in sincere implementation; in other words, respect for time and provision of quality governance at all levels of the Government. We would like to urge the Government to monitor implementation of the policy on a continuous basis by proper delegation of powers as well as by making the administrative machinery accountable."
