MADIKERI: The unique folk dance of Kodagu, "Ummathat", to be performed by a group from Kodava at the three-day Fourth World Kannada Sammelan, scheduled to be held in Baltimore, U.S, is sure to enthral the audience. The team is leaving Bangalore on August 30. The seven-member group will be part of 33 different artistes set to perform in the U.S. The America Kannada Kootagala Aagara (AKKA) is hosting the meet at a conventional centre in Baltimore, a press release from the Karnataka Kodava Sahitya Academy said. The meet will be inaugurated by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on September 1. Deputy Chief Minister B.S.Yediyurappa, Minister for Industries Katta Subramanya Nadiu; Minister for Small Scale Industries Shivananda Naik; Virajpet MLA H.D. Basavaraj; Chikmaglur MLA C.T. Ravi; and Malavalli MLA Andani will be part of the State delegation.
Seminars
The meet will feature seminars related to Kannada literature, interactions between groups, cultural procession and exhibitions. Noted personalities from the State in the fields of art, culture and social work are expected to participate. Apart from the "Ummathat", "Dollu Kunita", light music, classical music, drama and others will featured in the meet. Kannadigas from across the world are expected to congregate at the meet. One of the important events slated for the day is the "Suvarna Sangama", a group song cum dance programme, in which one of the artistes will be from Kodagu. The team members in the "Ummthat" troupe are: Mallengada Sudha Muthanna, Ponnachettira Neema Thimmaiah, Chimmanamada Muthamma Poovaiah, Balyameederira Ashita Shankar, Noorera Harini Muthappa, Mukkatira Shalini Ponnappa and Bottolanda Gayatri Uthappa. President of the Karnartaka Kodava Sahitya Academy Dooty Poovaiah thanked the State Government for enabling the team from Kodagu perform abroad.
