A promise of `maximum water'

HYDERABAD: Steps have been taken to ensure supply of maximum quantity of water to Nalgonda from irrigation projects under construction on the Godavari and the Krishna.

At a high level meeting here on Tuesday to review progress of these projects, Major Irrigation Minister P. Lakshmaiah set deadlines to provide irrigation facility to the contemplated ayacuts in the district under Sriramsaar Stage II and AMR Canal project. While the planned ayacut of Sriramsagar Stage II was 4.4 lakh acres by 2009, the Minister asked engineers to cover 20,000 acres out of this by November this year and another 50,000 acres by around the same time next year.

Similarly, he gave them an action plan to ensure irrigation to 50,000 acres by next month-end under AMR Canal Project and to another 25,000 acres by October. An extent of 35,000 acres has already been covered by the project.
