NEW DELHI: State Tourism Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely on Tuesday announced that the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation would introduce a radio taxi system to promote tourist activities and improve transport facilities for national and international tourists. Mr. Lovely said the efficient and environment-friendly air-conditioned taxi service would provide a safe, fast and reliable mode of transport to tourists in the Capital. He said through the call centre and radio service network tourists would be able to register their demand for taxis and then the network operator would immediately contact the taxi driver nearest to the tourist. The Minister said under the scheme good and reliable cars such as Toyota and Mercedes would be provided. "The call centre for the service will remain open round the clock and Delhi Tourism will ensure that the behaviour of drivers is friendly and courteous towards tourists." An important aspect of these taxis is that they would be able to move all over the National Capital Region, the Minister said, adding that for this the NCR authorities are being approached.
