Transparent liquor policy needed: Peter Alphonse
Special Correspondent
|
Also stresses need for change in attitude of police personnel
|
CHENNAI:
Congress member Peter Alphonse wants the government to come out with an "open and transparent liquor policy."
He said that in the previous regime, one firm was preferred and wanted to know why the earlier government did not allow a level playing field for all distillers. He said the Chief Minister should make public, deals of how many applications were received for setting up distilleries, breweries and wineries.
Complimenting the DMK Government, Mr. Alphonse stressed the need for a change in the attitude of the police. He said the Government should reconsider the decision (taken by the AIADMK government) to promote police officers involved in the hunt for Veerappan.
AIADMK claim
P.K. Sekar Babu (AIADMK) said it was during the AIADMK rule that extremism was eradicated in the State. Also it was to the credit of his party that movement of the LTTE was put to an end. Mr. Babu listed the welfare measures taken by his party for the police when it was in power.
