VIJAYAWADA: For a change, the general body meeting of the VMC on Tuesday witnessed a walkout by officials. Led by additional commissioner G. Neelakantham, the officials walked out of the meeting hall, resenting the remarks made by corporators of the Left parties and the TDP against commissioner Natarajan Gulzar, who is on leave. Floor leaders of the CPI(M), the CPI and the TDP charged Mr. Gulzar with encouraging corruption by not taking action against P. Ajay Kumar, project officer of the urban community wing. The remarks were made during a discussion on a resolution moved by D. Sankar (CPI) seeking repatriation of Mr. Ajay Kumar to his parent department (industries). Taken aback by the development, Mayor Tadi Sankuntala adjourned the meeting and invited officials to her chamber for a meeting. The officials returned to the meeting hall after the meeting with the Mayor. The Mayor later put Mr. Sankar's resolution for voting, and the general body passed it.
