VIJAYAWADA: The conversation made little sense when the voice on the other end of the telephone said in Telugu: "Meeku car tagilindi" (a figurative expression in Telugu which meant that the person had hit the jackpot).

Even while 76-year-old Vemuri Vimala Devi struggled to find logic in the talk, the male voice broke the exciting news - that she was the winner of `Hyundai Das Lakh Ka Chamatkar'. "I took some time to believe. The news came exactly three days after the local Hyundai showroom delivered the Hyundai Santro I had booked," said a delighted Vimala Devi. The septuagenarian resides alone near Nynavaram Gate as all her four children, two sons and two daughters, are settled in the U.S. "I keep shuttling between Vijayawada and the U.S.," she said. For easy mobility within the city limits, Vimala Devi bought a Hyundai Santro on August 23 and was clueless that she was part of the company's month-long special offer. Vimala Devi was one of the two winners of the `chamatkar' scheme being implemented as part of the company's fastest rollout of 10 lakh cars from its portals and its completion of 10 successful years in India.

"I was not even aware of the scheme, when I booked my car on August 17," said an equally elated P.V. Srinivasa Raju, a businessman from Bheemavaram (West Godavari district), the other winner of the scheme from the region.

Handing over the keys of the four cars to the proud winners of the `buy one and get one free' scheme at the Vijayawada Club here on Tuesday, V. Ramachandran, regional manager, sales and marketing-south region, said Hyundai had achieved many milestones in a short span in India.

He wished the two winners happy motoring amidst wide grins.

Lucky draw

The month-long scheme, launched on August 1, is open till August 31. Under the offer, customers can own two cars by paying the price of just one car. "A lucky draw of the buyers is conducted at the national-level every day and the winners are presented with one additional car," explained Venkat Reddy, general manager of Kusalava Motors Pvt. Ltd, dealers of Hyundai Motors India Ltd. for Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and West Godavari districts. Besides, the buyers can also bag gift vouchers worth Rs. 3.5 crores from Samsung, he said.
