Robber held, stolen properties recovered

Staff Reporter

TAMBARAM : In a swift operation, the police arrested Rakesh (24) of Chitlapakkam near here on Tuesday and recovered jewels, which he had allegedly robbed from a housewife in Sriram Nagar here recently.

Police said a three-member gang barged into the house of Gajalakshmi in Madambakkam in Sriram Nagar first cross street. When she resisted and raised an alarm, the gang attacked her and escaped with the booty.

A senior officer said Rakesh was a first time offender, while two other associates, who are evading arrest, are habitual offenders.

Activities watched

According to Rakesh's confession, the trio had closely watched the woman's activities from the rear side of the house, which was in a dilapidated condition.

They struck when she was alone at home.

A hunt is on to nab the other two persons involved in the robbery, DCP (Mount) Arun said and added that Rakesh had been remanded to judicial custody.
