Power shutdown

CHENNAI: Power supply will be suspended on August 31 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the following areas: Vallalar Nagar part of Cemetery Road, Manikandan 1st to 9th streets, MRC Nagar area and parts of Jaipur Nagar and Lloyds Road in Gopalapuram.

Bank branch shifted

Andhra Bank moved its Washermanpet branch to a more spacious building on Tuesday, a release said. The bank's Executive Director Kalyan Mukherjee inaugurated the new office with an onsite ATM facility. New ATMs in Adyar and Keelkattalai and a programme for personal banking loans were also launched.

Japanese lessons

Indo-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry will commence Japanese language classes (spoken and written) for beginners on September 6. Students will be trained for the proficiency test (level three) of the Japan Foundation in December 2007. Call 24352010/4779 for details.

Chest diseases clinic

A chest diseases clinic will be held at Apollo Hospitals on Saturday.

Screening, asthma education, instruction on using peak flow meter and inhalers and dietary advice are among the components of the programme.

Women's fair

Udayam Magalir Sangam, Velachery, will be organising a women's fair at P.S.K. Bhooshanam Mahal, Velachery By-pass Road, on September 2. The fair will exhibit different kinds of household goods, dress materials, artificial jewellery and food items. The fair is held to create a platform for women entrepreneurs to sell their products.
