CHENNAI : The 250-bed Bharathi Rajaa Speciality Hospital and research centre on G.N. Chetty Road in T. Nagar was formally inaugurated on Saturday by Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde. The hospital will have seven operation theatres and a few more dedicated for cardiothoracic, neurosurgery, orthopaedic and transplant procedures.

Mr. Shinde felicitated the hospital's chairman and physician, C. Natesan, who hails from a rural, agricultural background but made it big in corporate hospitals.

The Minister urged doctors to explain to patients their diseases. Patients `are gods to doctors' because they give them an opportunity to learn more and be inventive.

He congratulated the State Bank of India for funding the building of the hospital, and providing money without making distinctions on the basis of caste. He lauded the hospital's efforts at setting up a research unit at a time when corporate bodies set up research units and take advantage of section 80G of Income Tax in the process.

Dr. Natesan was felicitated by a host of doctors and ministers including G.K. Vasan, Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation and M. Krishnasswamy, president of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee and P. Jagannath, Member of Parliament.

The doctor was also felicitated by his teachers, colleagues, film director Bharathi Rajaa and poet Vairamuthu.
