NALGONDA: Seven persons of a family were killed and three others injured when the `Scorpio' in which they were travelling collided with a lorry near Narketpally on national highway no.9 in the early hours of Tuesday. The victims were identified as Aizaz Hussain (65), a businessman; Rehena Bhanu (46), his wife; Abid Hussain (30), their son; Javid Abbas (38), Aizaz's brother-in-law; Sabika Katun (28), his wife; Nehal Narghis (6), their daughter; and Meherangeez Bhanu (40), their relative. While Rehena Bhanu, Meherangeez Bhanu and Abid Hussain died on the spot, the remaining four persons succumbed to their injuries at a private hospital later. The ill-fated vehicle was on its way to Hyderabad from Rajahmundry while the lorry was going to Vijayawada from Hyderabad, Nalgonda Sub-Divisional Officer on Special Duty K. Chandrakanth Reddy said. According to the officer, rash driving of the Scorpio driver resulted in the mishap. "He had almost hit a lorry from a side before hitting the second lorry," he said, adding that Scorpio driver Satyanarayana (38) was recovering in the hospital. Twelve persons were travelling by the hired vehicle when it had the head-on collision with the lorry.
