BANGALORE: Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa has said that rural development programmes play a vital part in the welfare of the State. Inaugurating the "Knowledge, Meditation and Yoga" camp for members of zilla panchayats in the State, organised by the Art of Living here on Tuesday, Mr. Yediyurappa said: "Communalism in politics should give way for development activities." The three-day "Gyan, Dyan, Yoga Shibir" is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Government of Karnataka and Sri Sri Rural Development Programme (a rural development initiative of Art of Living founder Ravi Shankar). The camp aims at inculcating leadership qualities and human values in zilla panchayat members. The camp will have sessions on issues such as sustainable rural development, water resource management, organic farming and social forestation.
